According to Blackfeet legend, many painted tepees were given to the Plains Indians in dreams by animals, among the earliest, the buffalo. Yavapai Blankets |

Pendleton® Yavapai Blankets
Known as "People of the Sun," the Yavapai were a nomadic band of Native Americans who once occupied much of central Arizona. The Yavapai led a rather solitary and untouched nomadic existence for centuries, traveling distances of 20 to 30 miles per day on foot in small family groups. They followed the migration of animals for food and found shelter in caves, rock formations or easily-built pole-framed lodges. Yavapai women specialized in basketry, with some items woven tightly enough to hold water. This skill suited their nomadic lifestyle, as the light yet strong baskets were easily transported and suitable for many uses. The art of basketry is technically similar to the jacquard method of blanket weaving, using strands of many different colors to create an intricate and vivid pattern. The Yavapai Blanket combines two broad geometric bands running in each direction and nine large, equally-spaced diamond elements in a design that can be displayed or worn either horizontally or vertically. The many colors used in this blanket are reminiscent of the Arizona sunset, a fitting tribute to the "People of the Sun". 82% wool / 18% cotton, made in USA, dry clean.
